Formaldehyde degradation by catalytic oxidation.

Formaldehyde used for the disinfection of a laminar-flow biological safety cabinet was oxidatively degraded by using a catalyst. This technique reduced the formaldehyde concentration in the cabinet from about 5,000 to about 45 mg/m3 in 8 h. This technique should prove useful in other applications.

Asymmetric Oxidation of Ketones1

Abstract. The Ti(OiPr)4/tartaric acid diethyl ester/t-BuOOH complex (Sharpless catalyst) was successfully used for the direct asymmetric oxidation of ketones resulting in lactones from cyclobutanones; α,β-dihydroxy ketones from β-hydroxy ketones; alkyl lactone carboxylic acids from 3-alkylcyclopentane-1,2-diones; and spiro-γ-dilactone from 3-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopentane1,2-dione in high enantio...

The Microbial Oxidation of Methanol

Several bacteria are known which are capable of growth with methanol or certain other C, compounds as sole source of carbon and energy (Peel & Quayle, 1961), but little is known about the enzymes involved in the oxidation of methanol (Quayle, 1961). It has been suggested (Dworkin & Foster, 1956; Leadbetter & Foster, 1958; Harrington & Kallio, 1960; Kaneda & Roxburgh, 1959b) that methanol oxidat...

Electrocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde on novel composite of nickel/triton-x100/poly(o-aminophenol-co-aniline)

Oxidation of formaldehyde (HCHO) is very important, owing to its use in fuel cells. Modification of electrodes surfaces is an excellent way to decrease the overpotentials as well as to increase the current density of the voltammetric response.pt as most efficient metal catalyst can easily be poisoned by product of oxidation and also it has high cost. In this work an efficient and low cost elect...

Accessible protocol for asymmetric hydroformylation of vinylarenes using formaldehyde.

We report herein on an accessible protocol for the asymmetric hydroformylation of vinylarenes using formaldehyde as a substitute for syngas. The regioselectivity (branched/linear = up to 96/4) and enantioselectivity (up to 95% ee) can be attributed to the use of chiral Ph-bpe as a ligand.
